The Scottish Archaeological Research Framework (www.scottishheritagehub.com) provides an overview of the archaeology of Scotland and also a set of useful and relevant research questions, free and for everyone to use. The nine panel reports cover seven archaeological periods and two overarching themes and were the culmination of four years of work by over 350 experts in archaeology and related fields - providing a snapshot of the current state of thought as well as a set of research questions for the future.

This talk will discuss some of the background to the current ScARF project, which began in 2012, as well as our plans for the future. These plans include reinvigorate and update the panel reports, develop regional research frameworks to ask and answer specific regional questions and involve new and early career researchers in the project through our Student Network. The project is also currently undertaking a partnership with museums to enable curators and researchers to help ensure the framework is up-to-date and fit-for-purpose for all those working in the heritage sector.
