Knitting the  Highlands

Talk / workshop by Lynn Abrams

Gairloch Museum. £3. For further details and to book, see the museum website

Knitted textiles are a significant sector of the Scottish economy and also have cultural recognition within Scotland as well as globally. Knitwear production by hand and machine was practiced Scotland-wide, from Shetland to the central belt including the West Highlands. Gairloch is of course famous for its knitting skills and the distinctive Gairloch pattern. This event will combine a talk about the history of knitting in the Highlands with audience participation. We invite knitters of all skill levels to come along, bring your knitting (ongoing or heirloom) and tell us about your family’s knitting traditions.
