09 March 2023, Starts: 19:30, Ends: 20:30

 Finlay Mackinnon, Poolewe artist

Talk by Pauline Butler

Join our local researcher, Pauline Butler, as she explores the fascinating life of Finlay Mackinnon, who is the focus of the first exhibition this season in our ground floor gallery.

Finlay, born in 1863, was brought up by his crofter mother at Mossbank, Poolewe. Finlay made his living from painting commissions for watercolours of the Highland landscape and book illustrations. When war broke out in August 1914, he immediately answered the call to join the 4th Battalion, the Seaforth Highlanders.  This talk offers an opportunity to appraise his contribution to the cultural heritage of Gairloch Parish.

Book from Gairloch Museum website for either in person or via Zoom. £3
