Scotland’s civil war in the 17th century between Covenanters and Scottish monarchs was one of the most significant and violet in Scottish history. It lasted for decades, yet few people today know anything of these events. In his latest historical fiction, A Fire in Their Hearts, bestselling author Philip Paris tells the extraordinary story of the Covenanters and how captured Covenanters were often sent as forced labour to the plantations in America or the West Indies.
