'Birsay - political and religious power centre in Orkney. A retrospective look at 75 years' investigation'
Talk by Professor Chris Morris
Dingwall Community Centre
Description:
Chris Morris will summarise some of his recent work on the archive and unpublished work of Dr Ralegh Radford with his collaborator in investigations at the Brough of Birsay, Stewart Cruden, then Chief Inspector of Ancient Monuments for Scotland. He will assess how this fits in with, and contributes to, the work begun in the 1930's on this site, and the subsequent excavations, including his own up to 1993, and surveys up to 2007, both on that site and more widely in Birsay, well-known both as the centre of the Norse Earldom of Orkney but also as a notable Pictish and Early Christian centre.
ARCH lectures are held on the last Monday of every month (except December) from October to May at Dingwall Community Centre, 7:30, followed by coffees and teas. Suggested donation of £3 per lecture.
