Dr Oliver O'Grady and David MacDonald will outline the archaeological and historical significance of the site of the Cromartie Car Park as a place of medieval assembly, in the context of the archaeological survey to be conducted by Dr O'Grady in September.

Pathways into the Past: Stepping into History
Mercat Centre, Milton

Taking ancient routeways as a theme, these sessions offer an introduction to landscape archaeology for all those who want to research and record their local archaeology. We will look at to how archaeologists go about research and then at some of the sources, such as historic maps and aerial photographs, available to them.
In addition to the indoor sessions, there will be an opportunity to follow part of the routeway on the ground, identifying and recording features along the way.
Cost: £2.50 / free to those on benefits.
ALL WELCOME! No experience necessary.

Dr Oliver O´Grady, on behalf of the Highland Council and Dingwall History Society, will undertake a geophysical investigation of the Cromartie car park and the kirkyard of the parish church of Dingwall (since 1929 St Clement´s).
Oliver would welcome observation by interested local persons and would particularly welcome participation by physically active volunteer assistants in his investigation of the kirkyard, which he will conduct by means of electro-resistivity. He will conduct a survey of the car park area by means of radar penetration. Up to five volunteer assistants will be required to assist in his work in the kirkyard and up to three in the car park. The relevant dates are for the kirkyard Thurs. 8th, Fri. 9th and Sat. 10th September, and for the car park Sun. 11th and Mon. 12th September.
