Cairngorms Community Heritage Field Survey and Recording Event [Kincraig] ...

23 February 2012

Starts: 09:00

Field survey and recording event

o Meeting at 9am
o On Tuesday and Wednesday meet in the Kincraig Community Hall Car Park.  Travel north up the B9152 to Alvie Estate, perhaps sharing cars if convenient.
o On Thursday we will be working on the Pityoulish Estate.  We can meet on the B970 at the turn-off to Kincardine Cottage and Milton (where there is a layby).
o We plan to finish at around 4pm, or when it gets dark/too cold!

 On the day – what to bring with you
Clothing and waterproofs
The survey will take place outside – whatever the weather! – and will require walking over rough and possibly boggy terrain.  Please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear. This should include warm jumpers, hat, gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, and sturdy shoes or walking boots. Be aware that we will not be moving around all of the time and so it may get very cold. You may also find an umbrella useful!
Food and drink
Bring a packed lunch for each day and any hot or cold drinks. A flask of hot tea or coffee is a particularly good idea. Please bring everything that you need at the start of each day as we are unlikely to be near shops.  Also please note that there will be no facilities at the sites.
Survey equipment and cameras
All equipment will be supplied by RCAHMS but you are welcome to bring your own survey equipment, such as GPS or digital camera.

 Health and safety
We endeavour to conduct all events in line with current best practice in health and safety policy and practice, and a risk assessment is undertaken before we begin. However, please remember that the welfare of everyone on site depends upon all course participants acting in a safe and responsible manner at all times.

Exhibition : Killearnan Memories [Inverness] ...

23 February 2012

The Killearnan Memories exhibition is now on display in the Highland Archive Centre, Bught Park, Inverness. Part 1 is on display until 5 March, when it will be replaced by part 2 which will run until the end of March. The archive centre is open 10.00 - 5.00 on Mon,Tue,& Thurs, 10 - 7.30 on Wed and is closed Fri, Sat, Sun.

Killearnan lies on the south side of the Black Isle, and includes Tore - where the ARCH classes that inspired this exhibition were held in 2010.

Those involved in these sessions enjoyed them so much that, with some community benefit funding from Fairburn windfarm and the support of the North Kessock and District Local History Society, they set up a series of 8 meetings. These discussed old buildings and site, interviewed people about their memories and put these on dvd and produced this impressive exhibition - which includes lots of old photographs of the parish.
